The book won the JCB Prize for Literature and the Crossword Book Award for fiction in translation in 2018. Jasmine Days, the translation of his novel Mullappoo Niramulla Pakalukal, describes the lives in a fictional Middle Eastern city in the aftermath of a failed revolution. The book has also been included in the syllabus of various schools and universities in India. The English translation, Goat Days, was shortlisted for the Man Asian Literary Prize and the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. It won him the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009 and has been translated into many languages. Aadujeevitham, his most famous novel was a huge success that has been reprinted more than a hundred times and has sold over two lakh copies. He lived in the Kingdom of Bahrain and returned to his native state of Kerala in 2013, after two decades. Benyamin is an Indian novelist and short story writer in Malayalam language from Pathanamthitta District, Kerala.
